Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Do I need the add-on to use the website?

No. Characters, collections, the guild pages, raid logs and comparisons all work without it. The add-on adds what the game does not share with websites: your bags, bank and guild bank, your full spellbook, saved damage meter fights and your recorded places.

Should I log in with Battle.net or email?

Battle.net is quicker and lists all your characters, including alts, proven to be yours. With email you add one character, and an officer checks it is yours. You type your Battle.net password only on Blizzard's own page.

Why can I not see the guild pages yet?

A guild officer approves each new member first. You will see a notification at the top of the site when you are approved.

Why do some of my characters not appear on the site?

Only the characters you tick on My characters are shown to others. Blizzard also only shares characters that have logged in recently; log in to the game once and try again later.

The add-on

How do I get my bags, bank and spellbook onto the website?

Open your bank and guild bank once in the game so the add-on remembers them, then type /bw export, press Control C, and paste it on Import from the add-on. Importing again replaces the old copy; nothing is added twice.

Which add-on should I download?

The helper add-ons on the Add-ons page are for logging raids or recording places, and they do not speak. The full BlindWoW add-on, with speech, will be available on the same page.

Does importing the same fights twice make duplicates?

No. A fight already imported is skipped, and a fight that is also in an uploaded combat log is counted only once, using the log's fuller detail.

Logs and comparisons

How do I upload a combat log?

The game writes it to the Logs folder inside your World of Warcraft folder, in a file whose name starts with WoWCombatLog. Upload it on the Logs page; it is analysed straight away and you get a notification when it is ready. The BlindWoW add-on and the Raid Logger switch the combat log on for you in raids, dungeons and delves.

How are players compared?

Damage dealers and tanks by damage per second, healers by healing per second, against other players of the same class on the same boss, and against themselves week by week. Pulls shorter than 20 seconds are left out.

Upgrades and smart comparisons

How does "Upgrades you own" decide what is better?

For everyone, an item counts when it fits the slot, is armour or a weapon your class uses, has your main stat, and has a higher item level than what you wear. With the upgrade, smart comparison also scores items by your specialization's stat weights.

Where do the stat weights come from, and can they be wrong?

They come from SimulationCraft, which simulates thousands of raid fights each week with typical gear and talents for every damage and tank specialization and hero talent choice. They are estimates and can be wrong for your character, so check an item yourself before selling or deleting anything. SimulationCraft does not simulate healing, so healers are compared by item level.

What does the upgrade cost, and does it renew?

The personal upgrade is $13 for a year and the guild upgrade is $65 for a year, after a free 30-day trial. Each payment covers one year and never renews by itself. See Terms and refunds.

Sharing and privacy

Who can see my bags and bank?

Only you, the people you share a character with, and the site administrator. Other guild members see your gear, but not what you are carrying.

How does sharing a character work?

On the Sharing page, type the other player's BattleTag or one of their characters with its realm. If they use BlindWoW, they get a notification and can accept or decline. You can stop sharing at any time. Sharing with one person is free; the upgrade allows more.

Does BlindWoW send emails?

Only the ones you ask for: confirming your email address when you sign up, and resetting your password. Everything else appears as a notification at the top of the site.
